Sack O' Potatoes

And the last one.

This one despite being the largest was the easiest for me to paint. Decided to stop being so careful.

And the next one.

This one also got me quite frustrated, but again ended up quite pleased. Just took a few small changes to get it to the point that I wanted it at.

WIP photos to the finished piece.
The first one that I started on after Christmas. I had quite a fight to get this one just how I wanted it, but I’m pleased with it now that it’s done.

Looking back, I don’t actually dislike some of the photos of the earlier work as much as I thought I did. Annnd you can see where I had a tamtrum (twice) and painted over what I’d done. Ended up with quite a nice effect of the colours showing through, methinks. Learned a lot from this one. Pleased with the finished piece :)

Love love love this.

Annnd another.
Ken Spencer, acrylics.
Another artist seen at the Glasgow Art Show. Somthing a bit different.
Again lots of contrast between light and dark (I’m beginning to see a pattern here…). Strong brushstrokes. Strong areas of colour, lots of subtle ones in there too.

“Lynn Ratcliffe is a self taught artist living and working in County Durham in the North East of England.“Lynn states that her main direction is taken from Mother Nature herself, drawing from ‘her’ breathtaking and endless colour palette, which ranges from the most daring, rich and vibrant to the softest subtlest shade.“It is the sheer magnificence of nature that enthralls and mesmerizes Lynn, having such a profound effect, that she is inspired to createworks that capture some of the mood, energy and light of the greatest artists of all and to which we can all relate”

So, this pretty much sums up my feelings on the subject. Explains why I like her work so much I think.
Contrasts - Bright areas/dark areas, dull colours/bright and strong colours, soft brushstrokes/strong and unchanged brushstrokes, areas of detailed colour/areas that look largely similar, a small number of areas with very thick paint.

Just realised I’ve looked at lots of new artists and not shared them. Painting by Harry Brioche.
A very soft, gentle approach. I like the contrast of the detailed land and the bold brushstrokes in the sky. Also the bright ares/dark ares. Particularly the bright bits of land with the sun shining down.
The lalrgest part of the painting is the sky - dominating, but not overpowering.

Feel that it’s only right that I post this, seeing as I’ve been studying what happened/is happening at Bhopal so much.
It doesn’t take very long to watch.
I’ll be posting in a moment the online petition urging the olympics to drop Dow.
